Sanding of profiles

How to sand profiles and contours faster

Sanding of profiles

Sanding profiles, corners and curved surfaces can be difficult, but with Mirka sanding tools you can:

  • reach all corners
  • ensure a flawless finish
  • grind efficiently
  • get the job done in less time

By choosing "Mirka" sanding tools, complex parts can be sanded more efficiently and effortlessly. When sanding profiles, corners and curved surfaces such as ceiling, door and floor profiles, we recommend using Goldflex Soft or Mirlon Total®, depending on the type of surface to be sanded and the depth of the contours. All concave, convex or other complex shapes will easily take the desired shape.

Use of "Mirka" abrasives. Simple steps to a better profile sanding finish.

Step 1. Start sanding.

Sanding profiles - start sanding

Begin sanding by hand using P150-P320 grit Goldflex Soft or Mirlon Total VF 360 belts to remove surface imperfections. The poorer the surface, the coarser the grit of the initial abrasive should be. If the surface is in better condition, we recommend starting with a finer grit abrasive.

If you don't know which abrasive to choose, compare the ones listed on this page.

Step 2. Press.

Sanding profiles - press

Click on profiles:

  • Press the Mirlon Total VF 360 into the profiles until the desired result is achieved.
  • If you choose Goldflex Soft, you can start sanding with P150 grit, then apply the first coat and sand with P320 grit.
  • If using a grit coarser than 240 grit, we recommend applying the first coat and sanding again between steps.

Sanding by hand - reach every corner. We offer options for every surface.

„Mirlon Total®“

Sanding profiles with Mirka Mirlon Total

Mirlon Total® is a fibrous abrasive with Total Coating™ technology, which is easy to use for sanding profiled surfaces and which, thanks to its special structure, ensures an excellent finish. It creates a dense scratch pattern and has an open and flexible structure. This tool has reinforced fiber, so it is strong and durable. Mirlon Total is ideal for creating a matt surface and forms an excellent base for the next coat of varnish.

We recommend using Mirlon Total for intermediate sanding of painted surfaces, as it is more flexible and adapts better to the surface. The more profiles, the more benefits you get with Mirlon Total. The coarsest grain is 360.

„Goldflex Soft“

Sanding profiles with Mirka Goldflex Soft

The soft and flexible sanding tool "Goldflex Soft" is designed for manual sanding of profiled surfaces and irregular, hard-to-reach details. The foam backing provides good grip and even pressure, reducing the risk of sanding through the surface. A special stearate coating prevents clogging.

Compared to Mirlon Total, Goldflex Soft has a wider range of grits. It can be used for intermediate sanding of painted surfaces when finer grit than P240 is used. If you want to remove paint, larger irregularities and putty, sanding agents coarser than P180 can be used. Goldflex Soft has a smoothing effect, so it removes surface irregularities better and more effectively.
